Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, Inc., is a not-for-profit, member-supported environmental education and advocacy organization dedicated to the restoration and protection of the Hudson River and similar waterways. Its members own and operate the 106-foot sloop Clearwater, launched in 1969, as a floating classroom on the tidewater Hudson. The Estuary Program protects and improves the historic and scenic Hudson River watershed for all its residents. The program was created in 1987 and extends from the Troy dam to the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. Its core mission is to ensure clean water, protect and restore fish and wildlife habitats, provide recreation in and on the water, adapt to climate change, and conserve the scenic landscape. This edition is dedicated to former Clearwater staff member Michele Monjeau (1955-1990), the illustrator and chief author of the original book. In revising the key, we have tried to preserve the spirit of her work.
