Clearwater’s Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator Samantha Epstein will teach you all you
need to know about the “hydrilla monster” and other troublesome species in the river, explaining how to prevent their spread, on a special sail aboard the Clearwater, Sunday, July 12, 6:00-8:00PM from Poughkeepsie.
As always, passengers can join the crew in hoisting the sails on the sloop, and steering the boat with the 11- foot tiller. Everyone is invited to enjoy or sing along with the music they make on board.
Epstein will point out the invasive species in the river, including Hydrilla verticillata, an aquarium plant that has made its way into the world’s waterways The plant forms a dense canopy near the surface, harming aquatic ecosystems and habitats. One of the key ways invasive species are spread is as “hitchhikers” on boats.
The sail is being held in conjunction with Invasive Species Awareness Week.
Tickets: Adults, $50; Members, $35; Children 12 and under, free.
