From the Helm:
This past year posed some big challenges for Clearwater as an organization. We took on a major restoration of the sloop and are managing a leadership transition for the coming year. The sloop project brought traditional maritime shipbuilding activities to the Hudson Valley at our winter home port in Kingston. The boat program received the Tall Ships America Sea Education Program of the Year award. Our environmental action program has been working hard to fight the relicensing of Indian Point and continues to press the case of a more comprehensive cleanup of PCBs. To the disappointment of the entire Clearwater community, we were unable to produce a Great Hudson River Revival festival in 2016 and we are still pressing to finish paying for the boat’s restoration.
The sloop is more than just a sailboat, of course. It’s the Hudson River’s tall ship. It’s the “people’s boat”, a symbol of the river’s majestic past and its ecological recovery. And it’s also a living reminder of Pete Seeger’s environmental legacy. I need your help to get us to where we need to be as an organization. We’ve done so much work to get to this point. Please help me and our new board of directors move Clearwater forward. Thank you!
Dave Conover, Interim Executive Director
