Clearwater is saddened to learn of the death of Scott Greathead. Scott devoted his life to human rights, investigating and litigating human rights cases pro-bono for over 40 years, including on behalf of those harmed by repressive regimes in countries from Latin America to Asia. He also served as the First Assistant Attorney General of New York State and spent more than thirty years as a trial lawyer and appellate advocate in the state and federal courts in New York.
Scott was a committed and persistent advocate and a champion of both human rights and the environment, in addition to being a skilled sailor. As a long-time member of Clearwater’s Board of Directors, we will be forever grateful for Scott’s wise advice, counsel, collegial manner, and deep generosity.
We send our heartfelt condolences to daughters Kate, Frances, and Molly, brother Tim, and his friends, extended family, and his advocacy community. The steadfast determination Scott brought to the causes and cases he championed is a source of inspiration for all who encountered him. Scott will be deeply missed by the Clearwater community.
A memorial will be held on November 9, 2024. Learn more about the life and legacy of Scott Greathead.
