Goby

Gobiosoma bosc

Even as adults, gobies are among the smallest fishes you’ll find in the Hudson. They prefer shallow weedy habitats in salty or brackish parts of the estuary, where they feed on small animals. Their pelvic fins form a sucker-like disc that helps them cling to rocks and debris. Two types of goby are found in the lower Hudson. The naked goby has broad dark bands and narrow light bands with a smaller pelvic sucker. The seaboard goby’s light bands are much broader than the dark bands, and its pelvic fins reach almost to its anal fin.
