Clearwater is pleased to be partnering with Dia Art Foundation on Sunday, June 12, 2011 to offer an art-themed public sailing adventure. Tickets are $55 for adults; $40 for Clearwater members; and $15 for children 12 years of age and younger. Ticket prices include discounted same-day admission to Dia:Beacon, Dia Art Foundation’s acclaimed art museum with renowned works from the 1960s to the present.
At 10:00am, passengers will board sloop Clearwater at the Beacon Ferry Dock. Once on board, they will participate in the sailing of a traditional tall ship by helping to set the mainsail and trying their hand at the steering of the vessel. As with all Clearwater sails, there will be moments of quiet contemplation and joyful song.
Guest speakers Susan Sayre Batton and Kathleen Anderson from Dia:Beacon will talk about the Hudson River Valley as muse; from the 19th Century Hudson River School to post-war artists such as Dan Flavin and the history and development of Dia:Beacon.
Upon disembarking at 1:00pm, participants will find themselves in the midst of the Beacon Sloop Club’s annual Strawberry Festival, featuring musical performances, vendors, and other attractions. Dia:Beacon is a short, uphill walk from the dock.
