Investing in Hudson River Clean Water and Community Resilience
Join elected officials and leading environmental advocates at the Hudson River waterfront in Ossining calling for increased environmental funding and protections that will have a significant impact for Westchester and Rockland Counties. Legislators and advocates are calling for additional $2 million for the DEC’s Hudson River Estuary Program, a $400 million Environmental Protection Fund, a bigger Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Bond Act, and comprehensive freshwater wetlands protections in the New York State budget due April 1st.
Westchester and Rockland counties have significantly benefited from these programs in the past including receiving over 20 percent of the Hudson River Estuary Program community grants. With the combination of more people turning to the great outdoors and the effects of climate change upon us – rising sea-level, increased storm surges, and high precipitation events – these programs will continue to serve communities through opportunities that positively affect quality of life, public health and safety, and our economy. These programs would not only provide benefits to communities across New York today, but for future generations to come.
