This summer we’re excited to host our new paddling challenge and fundraising effort – Paddle for Our Hudson! We challenged the public to join us in celebrating our 55th sailing season by paddling 55 miles in a kayak, rowboat, or stand-up paddleboard between Memorial Day weekend and July 26th.
In celebration of this challenge, we’re highlighting paddle participants, starting with Clearwater’s very own, David Toman, our Executive Director and avid kayaker. We caught up with David to learn what inspires him to participate in the challenge and where he’s paddled so far:
Clearwater: What inspires you to Paddle for Our Hudson?
David Toman: “I’m inspired every day by the lasting impact of Clearwater on the lives of those who learn, sail, and advocate with us. We have dedicated volunteers who have come back year after year, participants in our Youth Empowerment Programs come back as volunteers or deckhands who go on to maritime or environmental careers.”
Clearwater: Where are you paddling during the challenge?
David Toman: “So far I’ve paddled in the Hudson River from Kingston Point Beach, Lewey Lake and Indian Lake in the Adirondacks – often joined by my wife, Wendy. I’m excited to paddle with other challenge participants during our paddle meet-ups.”
