On March 30 Clearwater and members of the National Decommissioning Working Group sponsored a very successful congressional briefing with the Energy and Environmental Studies Institute (EESI) with 334 people in attendance. We sought out experts in nuclear decommissioning, nuclear waste storage, and environmental justice issues to convey the problems surrounding nuclear waste to the members of Congress, their staffs, elected officials, industry experts, and concerned citizens who were in attendance. Congress deals with a myriad of issues and makes priorities for issues that are brought before them. Conducting a congressional briefing is a vital aspect of the political ecosystem to affect change. This forum provided Congress with the necessary information they will need to make informed decisions about nuclear waste going forward.
