Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering with Clearwater offers a unique opportunity to contribute to our mission of environmental education and advocacy. Our volunteers play a crucial role in supporting a wide range of activities, from event planning and fundraising to educational outreach and office administration. By donating their time and skills, volunteers help us maximize our impact and ensure the smooth operation of our programs. Whether you have a few hours or a few days to give, your involvement is vital to sustaining our efforts to protect and preserve the Hudson River and its surrounding environment. Administrative Support: Clearwater is seeking a dedicated and organized volunteer to assist with a variety of administrative tasks in our Beacon, NY office for 4-8 hours per week. Please contact Erin Macchiaroli at erin@clearwater.org if you are interested in becoming part of our office team. Key Responsibilities include:

• Assist with filing and organizing documents to keep our office tidy and efficient.
• Shred sensitive documents to ensure the confidentiality and security of our information.
• Help organize materials and resources for our various programs.
• Pull reports and gather data needed for thank you letters to our supporters.
• Print, fold, and prepare thank you letters for mailing, including sealing and stamping envelopes.
• Assist in event planning and day of support.
• Perform other administrative tasks as needed to support the Clearwater team.

Graphic Design: Clearwater seeks volunteer graphic designer (or related) to work alongside the Marketing and Development Director on the annual gala’s print brochure and other printed marketing material. If you or someone you know is interested please contact Meg Mayo, meg@clearwater.org.

Outreach Volunteers: Work with Clearwater’s staff to help spread the word about our work by tabling at community events representing Clearwater. Outreach Volunteers will work alongside the team at land based environmental, education, and sail related events. If you are interested, please inquire here.

Shore Support: Volunteer from your home! The Sloop needs Shore Support Volunteers for the 2023 Season! Shore Support Volunteers are on call when the sloop is at a dock near their home. Frequent support includes: bringing ice to the sloop in the summer to keep the crew cool, offering showers to the crew, offering laundering opportunities to the crew (we bring our own detergent), and possibly being available for transportation (bringing crew or materials to and from inaccessible docks), or simply being on call in case of emergency. Onboard Volunteers: Are you interested in life aboard the sloop? Our sloop volunteer program pulls together groups of 4-6 individuals who contribute to our education programs and onboard community. In addition to helping the crew facilitate the Sailing Classroom, we depend on our volunteers to help with sloop operations. Come live onboard the Clearwater this sailing season for an unforgettable week of sail training and teaching! 

If you are under 18 and want to volunteer, you can apply to be an Onboard Youth Volunteer. This opportunity can be applied to service learning hours graduation requirements.
