”I’m quite convinced that 500 years from now, the Clearwater will still be sailing….
Because there will still be a job to do.” — Pete Seeger

Dear Members, Friends, and Supporters,
COVID 19 has forced us to rethink the very foundation of our lives, thrown racial and economic disparity into stark contrast, and required us to reconfigure how we gather and commune.
No doubt Pete would have found a way to inspire us even in a time of Zoom calls and social distancing. And so must Clearwater.
With full knowledge that Clearwater’s work is far from over, our board, staff, and crew have embarked on a transit that is taking our historic 19th century sloop full-sail into the 21st century.
We need your help!
We are working hard to re-invent Clearwater to meet the demands of our new reality. Clearwater’s board, staff, and crew have begun a strategic planning process that will steer this cherished organization towards enduring impact and stability, because we know Pete’s work is far from done.Since March, Clearwater has adapted our traditionally hands-on education programs into virtual sailing classrooms and on-land virtual experiences. We are working towards this winter’s sloop restoration project to take place at our Home Port at the Hudson River Maritime Museum. We continue to advocate for a clean river, environmental justice, and have come together in musical celebration at this year’s Virtual Revival.
HUDSON RIVER SLOOP CLEARWATER:
Clearwater’s board, staff, and crew have begun a strategic planning process that will steer this cherished organization towards enduring impact and stability, because we know Pete’s work is far from done.
THE SLOOP:
Captains Amy and Nick have assembled a crew that will complete the sloop’s vital, multi-year renovation project and be ready to take on passengers in the spring.
EDUCATION:
Since March, we have changed course in order to bring the river to the community. Redesigned school programs now allow us to bring the river into virtual classrooms, no longer limited by physical location.
ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION:
We continue to speak truth to power and remain vigilant in the face of environmental protection rollbacks, escalating impact of climate change on our region, and continuing threats to the Hudson River watershed.
CELEBRATION:
We aren’t able to gather together, so we brought the celebration to your living room with the Virtual Revival in June. This fall, watch for Pumpkin Sails and virtual concerts, plus a revival re-stream on October 4th.
Please give generously so Clearwater can continue to inspire, educate and activate the next generation of Hudson River stewards and environmental leaders. Without the support of our members, Pete Seeger’s vision will not survive.
Clearwater and the Hudson River are depending on you!
