BEACON, NY — Clearwater is pleased to announce Zumtobel Lighting, Inc., a leading international lighting solutions provider, has joined as the organization’s first Corporate Member. Zumtobel Lighting, Inc., a Zumtobel Group company, with North American headquarters located in Highland, NY, designs and manufacturers innovative lighting solutions for the architectural design market.

Zumtobel supports sustainable product design throughout each luminaire by using high quality materials and components. Products are designed to not only be energy efficient, but to balance the product’s total relationship with the environment and end user needs. In addition, Zumtobel strives to create luminaries using the latest most efficient LED technology, with longer lifetimes over conventional lamp sources like florescent lamps, which results in less waste in our landfills.

Zumtobel also looks to green solutions in operating its operations in Highland, NY; as a good green neighbor in the community, the company operates a revolutionary waste water system.  In 2000, Zumtobel was faced with a septic system that could no longer meet the needs of its growing company. In exploring their options, they were approached by an ecologically-minded local water and sewer administrator with a revolutionary idea – simple beds of marsh grass could be used to clean waste water as effectively as the more traditional systems.  Today, Zumtobel is the proud caretaker of a 10,000 square foot artificial wetland, which is cleaner, more energy-efficient and less costly to maintain than traditional septic systems. This green project has received local, regional, and national media attention. Read more at http://www.zumtobel.us/us/en/eco_friendliness_f.htm

Zumtobel uses “green” manufacturing processes and efficient product design to provide people with optimum lighting quality. Utilizing all technical options available, Zumtobel is able to quickly turn new technologies such as waveguide, micro pyramidal structure and LED into high-quality products, systems and sophisticated lighting concepts. In applied research, particular emphasis is placed on energy efficiency and offers lighting solutions to give customers’ projects credit toward LEED certification.

Claus Kinder, CEO/COO stated, “We recognize and congratulate Hudson River Sloop Clearwater regarding their significant contribution to the improved health of the regional environment through their extensive implementation of green initiatives and educational programs, their dedicated volunteers, and passionate staff. Zumtobel Lighting, Inc. is certainly proud to work with organizations like Clearwater, such as our recent involvement in the University of Baltimore’s John and Frances Angelos Law Center project that is applying for LEED Platinum certification, and is in part supported by Zumtobel’s 100% LED product offering at this installation.”

“Clearwater is honored to align with Zumtobel, a company that is actively promoting green innovation in their industry, in their research and development, and in the products they offer to consumers.” stated Clearwater Executive Director, Jeff Rumpf, “We are pleased to have Zumtobel onboard as a Corporate Member and look forward to a long relationship and mutual goal of creating a sustainable future for the communities of the Hudson Valley.”
