Fising the Hudson River is a regular feature of an educational sail aboard the Clearwater. The students help lower a tube-shaped otter trawl net into the river. The river has around 130 species of fish, and in the brakish waters in the southern end of the estuary, Blue Claw Crabs are a frequent catch. They catch capture and release crabs, fish, eels and other critters in the Hudson River.

The River is alive with thriving biodiversity, but it hasn't always been so. The Chesapeake and the Hudson were so polluted that the Blue Crabs populations were threatened. The water was just too toxic to live in. The recent resurgence of the small crab is encouraging evidence of recovery of the river. But there is still much work to be done.
