It is a great sight to see the sloop Clearwater's mainsail raised for two reasons:

First - It is one of the largest sails in North America and

Second - The sail and boom which have a combined weight of about 3,000lbs are regularly raised by the hands of about 40 elementary school children. Such a feat sparks interest in the minds of the youngsters who are secretly learning simple mechanics and concepts of physics such as friction and leverage.


The Clearwater offers a unique educational setting with endless possibilities for interactive learning.
