Great Hudson River Revival Festival Director
Job Opening

The purpose of the Great Hudson River Revival Festival Director position is to direct the annual event, guided by the principles set forth in the Festival Mission Statement.

In addition, the Festival Director shall:
    •    Have a deep understanding of the Clearwater mission, and understand the
           festival vision, values and heritage;
    •    Have significant understanding and experience with the production and
           direction of an outdoor event;
    •    Work with the Revival Planning Committee to design and produce the
           festival and maintain an annual continuity of vision;
    •    Develop a calendar of production, promotion and deadlines;
    •    Direct the development and production of the Program Guide and other   
           aspects of PR, particularly with regard to the festival message and image;
    •    Cultivate sponsorship consistent with festival values;
    •    Be willing to embrace grassroots production and volunteer support;
    •    Work within a budget developed with and authorized by the Finance
           Director and maintain fiscal oversight;
    •    Coordinate production elements with such personnel as audio designers,
           sanitary management and Westchester County Parks;
    •    Provide reports to the Clearwater Board of Directors and the Executive
           Director;
    •    Have excellent interpersonal skills, be able to work in a hectic environment
           and have a sense of humor and perseverance.

Time Commitment:
Position to begin on or before November 2, 2009.  The Festival Director’s role is part-time and hours are relative to the production schedule. The Festival Director responsibility is limited to the Great Hudson River Revival. It is understood that the Festival Director will attend Revival Planning Committee meetings, Festival re-cap meetings and all others occasions necessary for mounting a successful festival. The Festival Director will work from within the Clearwater office. The Festival Director shall be on-site from the prior Thursday until the following Monday, and shall authorize closure of the site lease.

Support:
The Festival Director shall be supported by the Clearwater leadership team, including the Executive Director, the Volunteer Coordinator, the Clearwater Board and the Revival Planning Committee. Administrative and communication support will be available as needed.

Compensation:
The Festival Director shall be financially compensated for performing the job outlined in the above description at an agreed-upon rate. No other compensation shall be substituted or added. This is a contract position with no fringe benefits.

Camp Director

Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, Inc. has been a leader in providing high quality environmental education programming since 1969.  These programs include sails on the 106 ft. sloop Clearwater that combine ecology, history and music.  Clearwater also provides shore-based field trips for school children, classroom programs, assemblies, and teacher training opportunities. 

In an extension of these efforts, Clearwater has developed an experiential education program that includes summer excursions on or along the Hudson River involving experiences in kayaking, canoeing, hiking, organic gardening, rock climbing and sailing.  These programs are based out of our Camp Clearwater site in Beacon, NY.  The goal of Clearwater’s education program is to train the next generation of environmental leaders.

Clearwater is seeking a highly qualified individual to develop and run this program.  This is a half time position, full time during summer months.  Salary is commensurate with experience and includes individual health and dental insurance.

The ideal candidate will have the following experience and education:

•    Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental education or a related field.
•    Experience working with diverse populations of youth.
•    Knowledge of required staff and camp certifications/licensing.
•    Significant experience directing camp programs or adventure education programs.
•    Kayaking/rock climbing experience.
•    Wilderness First Responder training.
•    Ability to recruit, hire and supervise program staff.
•    Organize program logistics including transportation, equipment, supplies and food.
•    Excellent teaching and communication skills. 
•    Ability to market programs and attend camp fairs.
•    Proficiency in managing a budget.
•    Ability to serve as a liaison with parents/guardians and community partners.
•    Liaise with county and state health and safety officials. 
•    Assist with fundraising.
•    Promote Clearwater’s mission of education and environmental advocacy.
•    Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team.
