In 1966, folk singer and activist Pete Seeger believed that the public would come to care for all of our threatened waterways by learning to care for one boat and one river so he, and an inspired a group of dedicated people, made the dream a reality. Launched in 1969, the sloop Clearwater serves as a movable classroom, laboratory, stage, and forum. More than a dozen national and international programs have successfully modeled programs after Clearwater’s.

When you become a member of Clearwater you will help to restore, preserve, and protect the Hudson River, its watershed, and the communities along its shores through science-based education, citizen action, and community outreach. And you’ll become a member of our treasured Clearwater community, a very special group of people.
